Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association has recognized Dome Technology’s current clinker-dome project for Lehigh Hanson in Mitchell, Indiana, with an outstanding concrete award.
The dome is 220 feet in diameter and 160 feet tall. Storage capacity will max out at 169,000 metric tons; three on-grade reclaim tunnels will achieve 82 percent live reclaim. “It’s a colossal project. It’s going to be one of our bigger domes as far as storage capacity,” said Dome Technology sales manager Lane Roberts.
This is the 29th year IRMCA has presented concrete achievement awards, and winners are selected by a group of non-IRMCA member judges, often engineers and construction-industry experts. Awards are given in numerous categories, and a typical year produces about 50 submissions with 20 awards, said IRMCA promotions manager Chad Montgomery.
Irving Materials, Inc., the cement supplier on the project, submitted the dome project for consideration with help from HeidelbergCement director of project engineering Kevin Cove. Lehigh Hanson is a division of HeidelbergCement.
