Dome Technology and Peeples Industries collaborated on a third dome at the same site in Savannah, Georgia, USA.
Surging business growth led Peeples to build the most recent dome, and Dome Technology was chosen as general contractor again because of “the outstanding contractor service” in addition to the benefits of dome storage for pellets, Peeples Industries vice president Brad Orwig said.
The latest project had two stages: The first was DomeSilo and tunnel construction, and the second included the mechanical scope— design and installation of the mechanical system, truck receiving, and tying into the existing inbound conveyor from Dome 1.
Dome 3 stores 30,000 metric tons and is 190 feet in diameter and 105.5 feet tall. Live reclaim moves product to a tunnel beneath the dome, and front-end loader cleans up the remainder. The previous two domes store 25,000 metric tons apiece and were designed to be filled by train. With the third dome, trains still deliver product, but truck reception is now another option for the site. Pellets at all three domes are reclaimed by gravity feed to the ship loader.
Working with Peeples is always a pleasure for the Dome Technology team. “They are open and transparent, and they work with us as a team,” sales manager Lane Roberts said, adding both parties always have productive dialogue about how to improve operations.
Each dome project in Savannah has produced one DomeSilo with all three now operating in synch. According to Orwig, Peeples prefers working with Dome Technology because of “customer service, quality of workmanship, ethical business practices, strong relationships, uniqueness of design, (and) transparency of all aspects of cost/project.”
