In a recent editorial, editors at Tupelo’s Daily Journal called the dome being built as a safe shelter at Tupelo High School “important” for the district and community.
Two days after the airform for the dome was inflated, the editors wrote, “This week’s construction milestone represents a major step toward reaching an important and worthwhile goal for the Tupelo Public School District and our community as a whole.”
The column also noted that the facility will be able to withstand winds up to 250 mph and have the capacity to house all the high school students, staff and visitors in the event of an emergency.
Editors wrote about the importance of the district’s decision to build high-grade storm shelters on the campus of each local school in order “to protect our community’s greatest asset—our children.”
